Nevnine Onyango, the widow of slain teacher and influencer Albert Ojwang, has made a passionate appeal to Kenyans.

Speaking to a local TV station on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Onyango implored the country to speak out against police brutality.

Visibly emotional, the widow indicated that what happened to Albert Ojwang should not happen to anyone. Nevnine Onyango thus rallied the nation to throw their weight behind calls for justice.

“Let us speak about this. It doesn’t have to happen to anybody else because it is sad, it is so sad losing somebody… I just hope that everyone will come out and help us fight for justice,” Onyango stated.

“I know that we can’t bring his life back, but seeing him get justice and seeing those people who got involved being charged for what they did will, at some point, make us have peace of mind,” she stated.

“I want to speak out to everyone from the bottom of my heart, if they can really come out and help us fight for justice for Albert, I will truly appreciate it,” Onyango appealed.

Ojwang’s father

With seven days passing since Meshack Opiyo broke down after learning of his son’s demise, the aggrieved father is still raising questions.

In the same interview, Meshack wondered what crime his son had committed that warranted his arrest and transfer to Nairobi.

He called on the investigative agencies to bring out the full truth on what transpired.

“My questions still remain the same: what are the charges levelled against my son, and who is the complainant?” Meshack posed.

CCTV footage

The family’s demands for justice came hours after a local media house published CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, which added a new twist by showing police laxity in booking Ojwang in.

From the CCTV footage, three officers were recorded arriving at Mbagathi Hospital in a police vehicle at 1:35 am.

The two engaged in a brief conversation before walking towards the casualty section of the health facility.

During this time, Ojwang was still at the back of the vehicle, unattended. The officers then reappeared at 1:37 am while making phone calls.

From the footage, the officers took close to 20 minutes before wheeling Ojwang into the hospital while covered in white sheets.

The officers, whose identity has not been established, then spent another 10 minutes in the casualty section after taking Ojwang to the hospital.

At 2:11 am, they wheeled out with the body.
