The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has broken its silence after a failed launch that was scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Kasarani Sports Centre.

In a statement after a meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga said the launch, initially scheduled for June 4, 2025, was postponed after the management of Kasarani Sports Centre cancelled the booking of the venue.

“Today, the DCP Party led by the party leader H.E. Rigathi Gachagua held its inaugural National Executive Council meeting at the Party Headquarters since the unveiling of the party on 17th May, 2025. The party launch that was scheduled for the 4th June, 2025 and later moved to the 3rd June, 2025 wouldn’t take place because the management of the Kasarani Sports Centre at the behest of the Ruto Administration cancelled our venue booking with no possibility of a future date,” Obaga stated.

Obaga says the NEC has directed him to source for an alternative and suitable private venue for the party launch within the month of June 2025.

“Once this identified and agreed upon, we shall communicate to our party members and supporters accordingly,” he added.

On May 28, 2025, Sports Kenya Director-General Gabriel Komora denied the Rigathi Gachagua-led party the venue, citing the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025.

“We regret to inform you that the venue will not be available due to prior bookings by sports teams. We are also not taking further bookings due to preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN),” Komora wrote.

“Kindly consider looking for an alternative venue. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and we take this opportunity to thank you for your request to utilise the facility.”

Obaga further stated that the NEC has authorized recruitment of interim county coordinators to support the party organs at the grassroot levels and support the national secretariate.

NEC has further authorized the establishment of county and constituency offices in all areas where they have not been established.

“The National Executive Council further appreciated the enthusiasm of aspirants across the country in opening up party offices; whereas this is appreciable, it is guided that any party office must be sanctioned by the NEC and thus any such offices outside of this are deemed illegal,” Obaga added.

“Notably, NEC sanctioned the establishment of aspirants’ forums in all counties to be guided by County Coordinators; all aspirants across the country gunning for elective positions on DCP party ticket are encouraged to get in touch with party headquarters.”
