Governor Barasa lauds Kakamega residents for peaceful conduct during protests
Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has lauded Kakamega residents for their peaceful conduct during the Gen Z memorial protests on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Barasa said that the residents’ discipline and patriotism were a powerful reminder that the voices of the country’s youth can be heard and respected without necessarily indulging in acts of violence and hooliganism.
“I wish to express my deepest appreciation to the people of Kakamega County for your peaceful conduct today during the Gen-Z-led first anniversary protests. Your discipline and patriotism are a powerful reminder that the voices of our youth can be heard and respected without necessarily indulging in acts of violence and hooliganism,” Barasa stated.
Barasa on constitutional rights
He went ahead to state that he was committed to defending the Kakamega people’s constitutional rights, including the freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest.
“I recognise and remain committed to defending your constitutional rights, including the freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest. As demonstrated today, Kakamega County, the green jewel, will remain the epitome of peace, “Mulembe”, in the region and the entire nation. I thank you all,” the statement read.
Wanga’s statement
Homa Bay’s Gladys Wanga has also lauded the residents of Homa Bay County for maintaining peace and order during the Wednesday, June 25, 2025, protests in honour of Kenyans who lost their lives during the June 25, 2024, anti-Finance Bill protests.
In a statement issued on the night of Wednesday, June 25, via her official social media accounts, Governor Wanga expressed her appreciation for the calm and respectful manner in which the county observed the day, describing it as a reflection of the people’s deep commitment to unity and national progress.
“I take this opportunity to send special gratitude to you, the people of Homa Bay County, for the remarkable way in which you have maintained peace throughout the day. Your choice to remember our fallen heroes through peaceful engagement is highly commendable and showcases your commitment to a stable and united nation,” the statement read.
