Karen Nyamu drags opposition as she questions Albert Ojwang’s ordeal

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has dragged the opposition into Albert Ojwang’s death.
In a statement on Monday, June 9, 2025, Nyamu, through her social media handle, claimed that the opposition was capable of doing anything to paint the government of the day in a bad light.
The nominated senator claimed that the opposition was in a position to orchestrate self-abduction schemes to set up the people against the government.
“We have seen shameless self-abductions to set the people against their government, and it is not lost on us what this desperate, bitter opposition is capable of just to make the government look bad,” Karen Nyamu wrote.
Demands thorough probe
While sucking the opposition into the matter, Karen Nyamu called for an independent inquiry into what transpired.
She demanded that those who arrested the deceased be made public, and if CCTV cameras were in the said custody, the footage should be released.

Moreover, Nyamu called for an independent post-mortem examination to be conducted on the body of the late Albert Ojwang.
“My sincere condolences to the loved ones of Albert Omondi Ojwang. It is sad beyond words to lose such a promising young man in unclear circumstances,” her statement read in part.
“We want to know, who arrested omondi and who was the complainant? Why was he alone in a police cell? Do we have surveillance cameras in the cells? We demand an independent post-mortem conducted to establish the real cause of his death. We demand justice for him and his family! RIP champ,” it added.

IG Kanja’s account
Ojwang’ was reportedly arrested in Homa Bay after publishing social media posts critical of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.
Addressing the press on Monday, June 9, 2025, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the late influencer Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody, was under investigation for defaming Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.

“There was a complaint that had been logged by the DIG KPS (Eliud Lagat) that his name was being tarnished, and that is why Albert Ojwang was arrested,” Kanja said.
According to Kanja, after investigations, Ojwang, who was a teacher by profession, was later transferred to a holding unit within the station where he was locked up.
However, during routine checks by officers on duty, police later discovered that Ojwang was unconscious in his cell. He was taken to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
His death has sparked outcry with various bodies demanding justice.
