The Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen, has reacted to threats by a section of people online to invade State House during the planned June 25, 2025, protests honouring the victims of the 2024 anti-government protests.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Murkomen said that it is only Kenya that lets people walk scot-free for expressing their intentions of invading the State House or even the National Assembly.

Murkomen argued that in other jurisdictions, such threats are not tolerated.

“It is only in Kenya where one writes on social media that they will invade State House, the judiciary or parliament. And even if they are taken to court, they will be released and told to go home for free, and nothing happens to them,” he stated during a breakfast with the FKF Premier League champions held at State House on June 24, 2025.

Furthermore, Murkomen stated that individuals issuing such threats would be charged in other jurisdictions, such as the UK and the US.

“In the UK, for example, if any person tweeted or posted on social media to say they will be visiting Buckingham Palace or Parliament. Nobody will wait for them to come to the streets; they will be picked from their own homes and charged. If a citizen of America were to write on social media that they are invading the White House, the Secret Service will be sent to their home,” he added.

Goons

Similarly, Murkomen has asked police to be ruthless when dealing with goons during the planned protests.

According to Murkomen, the government will not fold and watch armed protestors cause chaos in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

“We have received a notice from some political actors who, not just a few months ago, were defending law and order, they were against chaos, but they are now planning to buy machetes and rungus, trying to distribute them to young people to cause chaos in town. And they want us to sit here and fold our hands and say that is Article 137 of the constitution,” he said.

“The national police must be ruthless in dealing with such criminals because we want this country to be a country of law and order, not chaos, so that everybody may be able to thrive,” he added.

Opposition leaders and youth groups have vowed to return to the streets in honour of those who lost their lives during the 2024 demonstrations.

While the opposition has declared the day a symbolic holiday, the government has remained silent.
