Dr Ofweneke sends bold message to Ruto after Gen Z protest

Comedian and media personality Dr. Ofweneke has joined the growing list of influential Kenyans voicing support for the Gen Z-led protests sweeping across the country.
Speaking through his Instagram account on Friday, June 27, 2025, Ofweneke issued a direct and pointed message to President William Ruto, urging him to acknowledge the new generation’s voice and adapt to the country’s shifting political mood.
In the strongly worded post titled “Mr. President…”, the entertainer called on the Head of State to recognise the changing dynamics in Kenya’s civic landscape, driven by a younger, more assertive generation.
“Times has have changed, this is a new generation, new energy and a new way of thinking,” Ofweneke wrote.
He went on to challenge the current administration to reconsider its approach to governance and engagement with the youth, who have taken to the streets in unprecedented numbers to demand accountability, transparency, and reform.

“You might want to change tactics and can only be one… LISTEN TO US!” he added in bold text.
The post quickly gained traction online, resonating with thousands of young Kenyans who feel unheard by the current leadership.
His remarks come in the wake of the latest wave of nationwide protests, which have been marked by candlelight vigils, peaceful marches, and digital activism.
With increasing reports of police brutality and excessive force used against protesters, public figures like Ofweneke have emerged as amplifiers of the youth movement, bridging the gap between celebrity influence and civic engagement.

Ofweneke signed off the post with a patriotic remark: “Kenya Above All!!”
His call to action adds to the mounting pressure on the Ruto administration to open dialogue with Kenya’s youth and respond to the core issues behind the protests , including economic hardship, lack of representation, and political mistrust.
As tensions continue to rise, it remains to be seen whether Ruto will heed the call to engage with a generation that has proven it will not be silenced.
