MCA Tricky speaks on why he has been missing in action

Comedian Francis Munyao, alias MCA Tricky, has finally opened up about the reasons behind his prolonged absence from the spotlight.
He has assured his fans that his missing-in-action status is a deliberate move in preparation for a grand return.
Speaking to YouTubers during Oga Obinna’s ‘My Mistakes’ show on Saturday, June 7, 2025, the artiste emphasised that art is not just about constant visibility but about timing and strategy.
“Relevance, you understand, can sometimes be low,” MCA Tricky explained.
He then revealed that wherever he goes, he is constantly bombarded with questions about his disappearance, lamenting that even a fan who spotted him that very night had enquired whether his absence was due to some unfortunate circumstance.
“That question about my absence is everywhere. Even here, I just came upon a fan who asked, Where have you disappeared to? What has happened to you?”
Tricky, however, refuted that his absence was not the result of any regrettable situation but rather an intentional and well-calculated move as part of his broader journey of strategic reinvention.
“Art is a journey, and it requires preparation. You need to know when to pack your boots, when to strategise, and where exactly you want to go. This is not about disappearing but about planning carefully for the next move. So, Tricky will be back.”
While he refrained from announcing a specific timeline, MCA Tricky promised that he is working on something big for his supporters.
“I do not want to announce this year, but I am preparing something major for my fans,” he said, adding that he had started organising a show last year but had to pause the project for reasons he intends to share later.
Industry challenges
Speaking about the challenges within the entertainment industry, he admitted that the road is not always smooth.
“This industry has its own difficulties. Sometimes you must step back to move forward. It is all part of the process.”

MCA Tricky also touched on the importance of loyalty and respect within the entertainment community.
He revealed that he made a point to attend Obinna’s sold-out show because of the unwavering support Obinna has shown him over the years.
He added that he felt it would portray him as disrespectful if he were to fail to attend the show, noting that Obinna has never failed to attend any of his events.
“I had to be there because he has never missed my shows. That is the kind of support I truly appreciate. If I were to miss it, it would show disrespect. Planning and executing a show of that scale is not a simple or cheap affair. When you say yes, you must be present, and if you are not, you must have a very good reason,” MCA Tricky said.
Addressing some misconceptions among fans and critics, MCA Tricky defended Oga Obinna’s rise, dismissing the notion that Obinna’s success is purely a product of the digital era.
He revealed that he met Obinna when he first entered the industry and insisted that it is the time taken to restrategise that has allowed Obinna to remain relevant to this day.
“Most people think Obinna just came up suddenly because of the digital age. That is wrong. He was in this game even before I came on the scene.”
He went on to explain the strategic approach some artistes take by stepping back and making calculated comebacks.
“Some artistes know when to step back, plan, and then come back stronger. That is why things are working for him now. I have learnt a lot from him, and I have come here to learn even more.”
