Kioni questions police statement on Albert Ojwang’s death

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has expressed his doubts about the police statement on X influencer Albert Ojwang’s death.
In a statement on Sunday, June 8, 2025, Kioni noted that watching Albert’s father sobbing at the Central Police Station where his son died while in custody is beyond comprehension.
He equally chided the police for notifying the public that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was handling the matter, noting that the body has its own communication systems.
IPOA handling case
“I’d say, May the soul of Albert rest in peace, but no!! May his soul haunt those responsible for generations! Watching Mzee Ojwang break down in pain is beyond comprehension,” Kioni said.
“Since when did the police become IPOA’s mouthpiece? This country is bleeding and rotting from the inside, Something has to give! This was murder!”

Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga on Sunday, June 8, 2025, revealed that Albert was arrested and brought to the Central Police Station in Nairobi over a case of false publication.
The police also said that the deceased sustained fatal injuries to his head after hitting the cell wall, a position that has drawn suspicion from various quarters.
“I handed over my son to the police officers who had come for him when he was healthy; I am shocked to learn from the police officers at Central Police Station that he banged his head against the cell wall,” Albert’s father, Meshack Ojwang, narrated.

“These statements do not make sense to me absolutely. Even a mad person would stop banging their head against a wall after feeling pain.”
Ojwang’ revealed that Albert had just secured a teaching job and was having a month-old baby at the time of his death while in police custody.
Suspicion raised
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo also cast her doubts about the possibility of the deceased taking his own life when a fundraising to secure his bail was ongoing.

She equally revealed that police officers denied the victim’s parents access to the police cell where Albert is said to have inflicted injuries to himself on Saturday, June 7, 2025, night.
“By the fact that the family are not allowed to see the crime scene, to us it raises questions: do they want to prepare the crime scene to suit the story that they are telling us? Because nobody has seen the crime scene, they are saying that the key has been taken away by the DCI. We have never seen such a thing,” Odhiambo questioned.
