According to a statement issued by the NPS on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, officers conducting the operation intercepted 5,660 rolls of bhang, which were found in the possession of an individual who is currently being held in police custody.
“On 1 July 2025, officers from the National Police Service (NPS) in Nairobi conducted a targeted operation in Kamulu, Ruai Sub-County, focusing on the trafficking of dangerous drugs. During the operation, a suspect was arrested while in possession of 5,660 rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang),” the NPS noted.
The individual is awaiting arraignment in court pending further investigations.
The coordinated operation is part of the ongoing nationwide campaign against narcotics, with law enforcement agencies intensifying intelligence-led crackdowns in areas suspected to be drug trafficking hotspots.
The police noted that the seizure is a significant milestone in the continued efforts to dismantle supply chains of illegal substances and deter the proliferation of narcotics, especially in Nairobi’s residential and peri-urban zones.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court. The National Police Service warns the public against any involvement in drug trafficking and reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating narcotics and related criminal activities,” the statement read.

Photographs shared by authorities showed the bhang neatly packed in neat blue and white pen-sized rolls.
Narok bust
On the same day, police in Narok East Sub-County similarly seized 600 brooms of cannabis sativa (bhang) following a dramatic high-speed chase on the evening of July 1, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the National Police Service announced that officers from Ntulele Police Station had intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado suspected of transporting narcotics from Kisii to Nairobi.
“The driver ignored police orders to stop, prompting a high-speed chase along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway. The vehicle was later found abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road after developing mechanical problems. Its two occupants fled into nearby maize plantations and are still at large,” read the statement in part.

Further, the NPS revealed that the vehicle and drugs are now secured at Ntulele Police Station as investigations continue.
The National Police Service commended the public for their vigilance and urged continued cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
