Kitui Central MP blasts plot to woo Kalonzo to join govt

Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu has dismissed the mounting overtures directed at Wiper supremo Kalonzo Musyoka to have him join the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking during a live TV interview on Monday, June 16, 2025, Mulu termed the ongoing calls as a wider scheme to paint Kalonzo as a rudderless leader and create mistrust within the Loyal People’s Opposition outfit.
Mulu holds that the Wiper party has nothing to gain were he to join William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.
“We have less than two and a half years to the end the term. We are talking of a government with blood on its hands. I know Kalonzo, and I can speak on his behalf as my party leader. What would be really attractive for him to join this government?” he posed.

The legislator further dismissed assertions that a top government role awaits the leader, stating that no position in the current administration fits his stature.
“Which seat are they reserving for him? The presidency is gone, and Kindiki is there. Unless he wants to resign and leave the position for Kalonzo. The speaker seat is also occupied, so which seat are they planning to give him?” he stated.
The MP further read mischief in the whole process, which he says is geared at destabilising the unity within the opposition members.

“These are deliberate moves to get Kalonzo out of the coalition in opposition and create mistrust. Kalonzo is determined to remain in the opposition and will not join the broad-based system. We have seen them from afar. He has said that there is nothing they can do to get him to join this government,” he added.
Speaking on the topic, former Cabinet Secretary Kipruto Kirwa warned that Kalonzo should be wary of the overtures.
“Kalonzo will not accept even the president’s offer. He knows they can offer you that position and impeach you in no time, the way they did to Gachagua. Let me assure them, the opposition coalition is looking for leaders with levels of trust. Those who can put aside their ego and deliver as a team,” he said.
