In a statement, the Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) said plainclothes officers, some masked, forcefully entered the governor’s Kitale residence in the early hours of the morning.
“A heavy contingent of police officers in plain clothes, well masked, have gained access to Governor George Natembeya’s home. Such Moi-era tactics won’t work in today’s Kenya. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” the party said.

Residents flocked to the scene in protest, blocking the entrance in a bid to prevent the governor’s arrest.
Kalonzo raises alarm
The raid followed claims by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who on Sunday, May 18, 2025, claimed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had obtained a warrant to search Natembeya’s properties and arrest him.
The EACC should not be weaponized against leaders who are simply doing their job or choosing to stand firm in their principles like Trans Nzoia Governor Natembeya

Speaking at a function earlier, Natembeya warned against the misuse of state security for political purposes.
“We should stop using the police to solve our political problems. Law enforcement exists to uphold the rule of law, not to be a tool for political agendas,” he said.

Natembeya, a fierce critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, has recently intensified his attacks on the government over governance and development issues, raising speculation over the motive behind the police action.
