Esther Passaris pens hearty message to Sifuna as he celebrates birthday

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has sent warm birthday wishes to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, praising his leadership, boldness, and contribution to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a message shared on her official X account on Thursday, May 22, 2025, Passaris described Sifuna as a sharp legal mind, a bold voice in the Senate, and a strong pillar in the ODM party, where he serves as Secretary-General.
“Happy Birthday to Hon.@edwinsifuna, a sharp legal mind, bold voice in the Senate, and steadfast SG of ODM. May this new year bring you more strength, wisdom, and victories in your service to the people. Yenjoya Endalo yoo Etalangi ye mu Senate, ruma e pin khupe sherehe!” she wrote.
The last part of her message was in the Luhya language, loosely translating to: “Enjoy your day, the lion of the Senate, send location we party.”
Goodwill and respect
This is not the first time Passaris has publicly applauded Senator Sifuna. On February 23, 2025, she congratulated him for marking seven years as ODM Secretary-General. She praised his commitment to the party and lauded his leadership as instrumental in strengthening ODM’s position as a top political force in Kenya and beyond.
“A hearty congratulations to Senator Sifuna, SG of the ODM Party, for holding the Secretary-General position for seven remarkable years. Steering the number one political party in Kenya, if not the whole of Africa, is no feat. My prayer today is for God to grant you the wisdom to continue being of formidable service to ODM and Kenya. Cheers to the next seven years,” she said.
Both Passaris and Sifuna were elected on the ODM ticket during the 2022 general elections.

In 2023, Passaris found herself in a tough position after supporting the controversial Finance Bill 2023, which was opposed by the ODM party. As the party’s Secretary-General, Sifuna was directly involved in the disciplinary proceedings.
However, he acknowledged Passaris’s willingness to engage and her commitment to the party after she apologised and promised to work in line with ODM’s values and expectations moving forward.
“The difference between Passaris and all the others is that she apologised. When she was called to the disciplinary committee, others refused to come and trivialised the matter,” Sifuna said.
